About Chickadee Cabin
Chickadee Cabin offers cozy and convenient lodging that is on the Appalachian Trail and just five to ten minutes walking distance from Hot Springs' restaurants, shops, and mineral tubs.
This is an ideal cabin for a honeymoon, or just a couple wanting a romantic mountain retreat! The master bedroom features a jetted Whirlpool tub nested in a large garden window facing the woods. There are two single beds available in common area if the kids or your friends will be joining. The large covered front porch is perfect for enjoying a sunrise mug of coffee, sunset glass of wine, or spending a lazy afternoon watching the songbirds flit about in the adjoining forest.
Just a few minutes’ walk or drive to downtown Hot Springs and a one minute walk from the Appalachian Trail’s entry into Hot Springs, Chickadee Cabin offers excellent convenience while still remaining secluded and peaceful on a quiet street tucked into the woods.
Wake up to the birds singing out back and enjoy a fresh morning cup of coffee on the covered porch, or meander in to town on the Appalachian Trail for a day exploring Hot Springs’ restaurants, local crafts, rafting and more. The cabin is within a few minutes’ drive of Hot Springs Spa where you can take a dip in a natural-fed hot tub, or stay home for a romantic evening complete with a two-person indoor Whirlpool jetted tub.
This is an ideal cabin for a couple wanting a mountain retreat while remaining close to all that Hot Springs has to offer.
Chickadee Cabin is outfitted with a kitchenette. This includes a coffee maker (of course!), a coffee bean grinder, a mini-fridge/freezer, a sink, a set of basic plates, bowls, and utensils, a cutting board, knife, and crock-pot. There is no oven or stove in this kitchenette.
On the covered porch there is a Weber charcoal grill for burgers and veggies! There is also a table and seating for four.
We pride ourselves on our VERY CLEAN cabin. Just check out our reviews!
Chickadee shares a wall with an adjacent cabin (Goldfinch). Each cabin has its own private parking and private entrance. Shared wall is soundproofed for privacy.
+ Amenity Details

AIR CONDITIONING AND HEAT Yes! We do have air conditioning and heating.
TV There is a television as well as over 100 DVDs to choose from. We do not have cable TV.
INTERNET We've got WiFi! We have the best WiFi that is possible to get at our location, BUT it is satellite internet and is affected by the weather and heavy usage times in the county. Do expect to be able to browse the web, but do not expect to be able to stream movies or music. Often it will, but sometimes it won't!
2 WHEEL DRIVE ACCESSIBLE The cabin is on a well-maintained state road and the approach and parking is flat.
PET FRIENDLY Chickadee Cabin is pet-friendly! Mostly we expect dogs, but cats may be welcome as well. If your pet is not house friendly (chewing, scratching, general chaos and destruction...) we ask that you kindly leave them elsewhere OR bring a kennel for their time in the house. A $15 pet fee covers up to two pets for the entire duration of your stay.
NO SMOKING INDOORS This is a NON SMOKING vacation rental. Smoking is permitted outdoors and ashtrays are provided.
+ The Neighborhood
Chickadee Cabin is located near town and only steps from the southern entrance to the Appalachian Trail. We would guess that we are 78 steps away, but haven't actually counted :) The AT will cruise you straight on in to Hot Springs, no car required, and you can expect it to take 5-15 minutes depending on your ability level and where you are headed in town.
A three minute drive will land you at the famous Hot Springs Spa and Resort, where you can soak in Hot Springs' naturally heated mineral tubs. For a real "day at the spa," check out their massages as well!
We are across the street from the Laughing Heart Lodge, which is a beautiful building that is an old Jesuit Retreat Center and is now operated as a predominantly private events center. There are public yoga and dance classes periodically, and guests of Chickadee have an open invite from the owners to enjoy their beautiful garden and grounds!
There are other houses on our road, but they are not visible from the cabins, as we are surrounded on three sides by forest.
+ Getting Around
To get around Hot Springs, you'd best strap on your walking shoes. We are a quaint little mountain town, and you can walk to everything. We don't even have a stoplight! You may walk or drive to town from the cabin. There is plenty of free parking in town on all days excluding festival days etc.
There is no public transportation in Hot Springs, but Bluff Mountain Outfitters offers a shuttle service to popular hiking areas.
+ Guest Access
Guests have access to all areas photographed and mentioned, including the parking area, gardens, porch, and interior. The keys will be left in a lock box at the front door so you may check in whenever you wish and come and go on your own schedule!

"Tucked right up in the sweet town of Hot Springs and steps from the Appalachian trail-This cabin was perfect for a little getaway. Plus we were able to walk eveywhere like the Hot Springs Resort and to Smoky's Diner for breakfast! The luxiourious whirlpool bath tub was a great way to relax! I highly recommend this spot to anyone coming to the area!!" -Camille
"Natalie's place was quaint, quiet, clean, simply sweet (as she is also!). We were able to hike on the AT, play in the nearby falls, walk to the cute town, cuddle up and watch one of her many movies, and play games and have morning coffee on the porch nestled in the beautiful yard . We were also able to cook simple meals with her crock pot and microwave which for us is an important savings!! Thanks Natalie. We WILL return!" -Susan
"This place was so perfect for me, just far away from town to be in town. Sitting on a lovely side street nice quiet little spot, the Appalachian Trail crossing in front of this home. We met several of the walkers very interesting stories about their experiences on the trail. Loved it!" -Debbie
"This cabin was absolutely perfect and a hikers' paradise! It has a little mud room at the entrance which was perfect for all our wet gear. There were also hooks everywhere which was perfect for us! The patio even had a line to pull out for wet clothes. Beds were so comfortable and we even had extra blankets. We came in on a really wet and cold day to hike and Natalie was so great to let us check in early. Definitely would recommend!!" -Mallory
"Awoke to the sweet sound of birds singing in our aptly named Little Bird Cabin. Lovely and cozy little house 20 yards from the AT and a 5-minute walk to the cute town of Hot Springs. Natale was a great host responsive to all communication. We were happy to have her guidance on things to do in the area. We felt welcomed and in good hands. Look forward to visiting again!" -Kimberly
